Indigenous STEM Mentorship
Native Americans have fewer Masters/Ph.D./Faculty positions in academia than would be expected for their population size. I hope to contribute to greater interest in STEM research by tribal members through leading as an graduate advisor for ISTEM and COSMOS. Both of these initiatives seek to evolve interactively with student interests under faculty guidance. If you are a Native American interested in STEM research, either of these programs can help further your academic career and I encourage you to contact me, Jerry McMurtry, or Ed Galindo.
I am planning on mentoring an undergraduate student from Ecuador during my fieldwork in the Galapagos. If you are an Ecuadorian citizen interested in evolution, beetles, or island biogeography, please contact me!
